1988 Toyota Celica All Trac Turbo - SOLD!

1988 Long Beach Grand Prix Pace Car Edition
1988 Long Beach Grand Prix Pace Car Edition
1988 Toyota Celica ST165 All Trac Turbo, also called Celica GT-Four in UK, Japan. One of 77 1988 Long Beach CART Grand Prix Edition vehicles built by TRD for each dealer in Southern California to celebrate Toyota's 1987 IMSA GTO Championship win. This and the other 76 pace car "replicas" lapped the Long Beach circuit before the main event. Original vehicle, one - non-smoking - owner from new. Less than 85,000 careful miles. Near perfect condition, just a few stone chips and the damage to the sound deadening material under the hood - from a radiator failure due to failed temperature sensor - detract from a otherwise excellent vehicle appearance. No dents, no damage, no repairs, original interior and paint - and this on a 20 year old!

An amazing car. Still looks up-to-date. Handling with permanent 4WD and 50% front/rear split with fluid center diff and stronger suspension, is just awesome, in the dry and in the wet it is all fun.

Unlike the later ST185's the ST165 is close to the rally car that Toyota used successfully in '88 & '89. Post Group B rules said there had to be 5,000 identical production models - fortunately Japan and UK could not take that many, so a number were made for USA market in '88. This car has the '89 ECU for a little more power. The rally version had 300bhp, but our car, unlike many, is truly stock. Only 3rd party item is the UNGO car alarm as the Toyota one from '88 wasn't enough - I'd only owned it 3 days when someone tried to take it! The IMSA package included the logos on the side of the doors and rear side windows, white wheels, white stripe across top of grill, and better tires - one of those Bridgestone Potenza RE87's still sits on the full-sized spare. The car was even better on Bridgestone RE71's (RIP), but now sits on SP Sports with plenty of tread left. Car is economical on tires and gas - if you watch the turbo boost gauge that is!

Everything on the car works, and it has had all the usual '88 Toyota problems addressed: rusty sunroof replaced (under 5yr body warranty), timing belt changed (due to age), almost every temperature sensor replaced, steering pump hoses, and many batteries. No urgent work needed, but the replaced steering belt needs re-tightening, and the timing belt will be due for replacement again due to age. Note that the car was not detailed for this photo shoot, just washed, i.e. the state you see the car in today is the state it's always been, it's not been abused and then restored, it has always been maintained in this condition.

Initially used as daily driver, it has always been garaged, with either a cover or screen/towels over dash and seats when out in the sun. It has never been through a car wash: you can see the original pinstripes are intact. A Californian car, it has never been raced, rallied or even used in the snow. A great specimen for someone who real appreciates the vehicle, and wants to continue to 'baby' it so they can enjoy it for many years to come.

Selling for a reason - otherwise we would never, ever part with it. For more info contact us.
