Post Re: Pro_News version 3.2: Lots of Improvement

How would I force the display order to be by article (latest) if it's on the home page?

Another quick (possible) bug. Everytime I try and add an image to the article, if the image is bigger than say 500k the submit page just ends up blank. If I reduce the size of the image it works ok.

Any chance of getting the 'Display in Home' option displayed on the 'Submit Article' page? It seems to default to no so I have to edit every article after submitting it...

It shoudl default to Yes. What template are you using? Check the corresponding one in submit/ to make sure the input field is present?

Hi

Where are we with this. Was there a new beta version issued or is it now finished ?

I've lost track since my last post here.

Good to hear from you.

I *think* there has been 1 beta release since: v. 3.2.0.4. (look under Modules > Pro_news to check what version you're running).

That is probably ready to release, but 2 problems have been reported, and I've honestly not had time to even think about looking to see if they need fixing prior to release. (Moved house, which needed lot of work - and only got slow internet access today!)

I may get time to look soon ...

rosbif, Just to clarify, Display in Home only ever displays in Admin > Messages > Pro_News > Submit Article. It never displays to user Submiting an Article from Home menu. Rationale is that only the Admin wants to control the front page, at least at the article level.

If you want every article to display in Home, why not set Section to default to display in home, then manual mark those which are not - if there are less of them>

I have each section set to display in home by default but I still have to set them to display if the article has been submitted not through the admin submit.

My biggest problem at the moment is images. For some reason (and I've not changed anything to affect this that I know of) I cannot submit an image with my articles, either as admin or not. Any time I add an image to my article both the preview or the save page is blank after I press the button and nothing is saved. I've reduced the images to 200k each, tried with only one image and it is still not working. Oddly enough it worked last week!

Hmmm, playing around I've managed to get the images to upload correctly, but only by reducing them to 128k each. Anything over about 160k and I just get a blank page on submit.

Post Re: Pro_News version 3.2: Lots of Improvement

Well I tested this yesterday, and on my development site I can upload a 6.8MB gif successfully! So I'm thinking that it is related to your host?

Either that or DF is crashing due to memory/time constraints possibly. What do your Apache logs say at the time of the blank screen? And what are your memory (memory_limit) and time limit (max_execution_time) settings in php.ini? (You can find the location of your active php.ini file from Admin > System > System Info.) I was running 32M and 30 respectively, but the default memory is only 8MB which might be a problem with big images perhaps? Pro_News is not a small module Wink

I've got;
max_execution_time = 30; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds
memory_limit = 8M; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (8MB)

Should I increase them do you reckon then?

Post Re: Pro_News version 3.2: Lots of Improvement

The time limit ought to be fine, but the 8MB needs to go up IMHO - at least to see if this addresses your issue. Both my hosts default to 32MB so I've not ever tried anything smaller...

After all it has to load up to 3 copies of the image - the uploaded one, the wip one and the saved one, plus whatever the PHP needs in the background, and that's not counting the thumbnails images. So 8MB doesn't leave much room for any code to execute! Or vice-versa as the code is obviously there first.

And you wanted your users to be able to upload > 800 pixel images to be resized twice, so you are looking at 2MB+ for even a 3M pixel camera at full size, and twice as many active images in memory.

BTW, did the List by Article code change (1 page back) work for you?

Post Re: Pro_News version 3.2: Lots of Improvement

That hasn't worked either - you can see my php variables here.

I haven't had a chance to play with the list by article code change. What I've really been looking for is a way to force the display to be different if looking at the home page ie by article for home page but by section by article for other pages...
